Who are you?
I am Liisa Kemppainen. I graduated in autumn 2012 with the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.), Civil Engineering. I specialize in infra construction.
What do you do at Sito?
I have worked for Sito Roads as Junior Designer since October 2012. My main duties include data modeling in projects alongside various development tasks. I have also been the designer in a few projects.
What are your responsibilities?
Since data modeling involves data management, I am responsible for a few project banks and several source data models. I organize training sessions and briefings on data modeling in projects and Sito in general.
Can you tell us about some of the most interesting projects you have been involved in?
They are many. At present, I am involved in a Finavia project (increasing the transit traffic capacity), in which the most interesting aspects are the collaboration of the house and infrastructure sides, and coordination of plans. Particularly in terms of data modeling, it is fascinating to consider the common objectives, create new working methods and see how they work in practice in these large-scale projects, with everyone using different design software to complete the designs. The work has been very edifying and I have learned a lot about the different parties involved in this sector.
Another interesting project I am involved in at present is the Kruunusillat project, in which I am the data model coordinator. The extensive scope of the project and the large number of actors has posed special challenges to data management, and we have had the privilege to guide different users in how to use the project bank, and to present the operating methods of the project.
I have also been involved in writing the general model requirements for the sector, and various instructions for the Finnish Transport Agency among others.
